Interviews with Indies - Pound of Glitter

This week has been really slow for news and hauls - so instead of the Saturday Summary I'm bringing you a long overdue episode of....

What is the name of your brand?
Pound of Glitter

What is your name/names of everyone involved in your brand?
LOL, Myself, but I have help from my husband and moral support from my four dogs, except when they want their ball thrown.

What got you started in the polish making market?
I got curious about how to chemically "make" polish because of the varying qualities of formulas in commercial polishes.  I started wondering why one was different/better/worse than another.  This led me to discover frankening and then making polish from scratch.  I found a whole new world in Indie polish!!

Do you have a background that was conducive to getting started in this field?
(example: were you a chemistry major, work in a lab, have an art degree, etc...)
I have always been into crafting, painting, sewing, etc.  I love colors and repainting and redecorating my home.  Nail painting is the same idea on a smaller scale.

What is your thought process when naming colors?
I like all the catchy, punny names, so I try to go with those, at least for now.  Maybe someday I'll be more serious.

Where do you derive your inspiration for your creations?
All over the place.  I like the colors and patterns that I find in fabrics and wallpapers especially.  The colors in nature are awe inspiring....

Where do you create?
I have a "polish room" in my house where I spend lots of time thinking and experimenting.  I carry a notebook in my purse everywhere I go to jot down notes about color combos and patterns.

Do you make polish full time?
No, not yet  :)

What is your favorite polish that you did NOT make?
OPI DS Orginal.  It is my "stranded on a desert island with only one polish" polish.

What is your favorite polish brand?
Hmmm, commercially, Color Club.  Indie, well that's hard!!

What is your favorite polish from your own line?
Wedding Day, it deserves more love....!
What is the best part about making polish?
All the colors.... blending pigments to make new colors...  the sky is the limit on that....!!!

What is the worst?
Getting glitter under my nails....and you know that stuff is everywhere.....  :)

How many polish shades have you made to date?
Probably 50 or so, some are great, some are duds!!

How many polishes do you have in your own personal stash?
About 500???

What is your one favorite ingredient?
Well, it would be Spectraflair if it was available!!!!  Second fave is Mica.

Do you make non-polish products? If so, tell us about them!
I make Nail Polish jewelry and other jewelry.  I want to learn to stamp metal next...

Tell us where your polishes are available to purchase?
On Etsy, or http://www.poundofglitter.com/ will take you there.

Do you have a website/facebook/blog? Give us any links you want.

What does the future hold for your brand?
I would like to be able to sell a variety of products on my website, in addition to polish.  Definitely more collections as the seasons change and I will be adding core polishes to my line.

Do you have anything else you'd like my readers to know about you or your brand?
I'm a dog lover... maybe I will do a dog inspired polish collection one of these days...
