Gnarly Number Ones for April

April 2013

Number One Tried Polish - This may be a weird "polish" choice - but hands down my most favorite polish this month was MASH Nails Matte topcoat. It simply has THE best finish of any of the matte's I have used to date.

Number One Untried Polish - Right now I think the polish I'm most excited to try next is Sinful Colors Pistache. I finally found it at Walgreens this past weekend and am definitely going to try and work it into the Untried Polish Challenge this coming month.

Number One Indie Polish(es) - CrowsToes Milquetoast. It was one of those polishes that you love in photos and only love more once you get it on your own little paws.

Number One Untried Indie Polish - I have a buncha buncha Indie polishes on my backburner right now it is really hard to pick just one I'm most excited about. I'll say LynBDesigns Time and Relative Dimension in Space.

Number One Blogging Milestone - My biggest milestones this month were the things that have to do with my current GIVEAWAY! 500 posts on this blog and a lot of follower milestones have made me feel very humbled this month. I've had a few emails this month as well from smaller bloggers complimenting me and it feels very surreal to be in a place like that - I can't begin to acknowledge how grateful I am to have made this blog what it is.

Number One Viewed Blog Post - The Floral Grunge Tutorial has soared off the charts in views this month. I have also had right around 10 different people try it out and send me photos! I feel very blessed that so many of you found inspiration in it!

Number One Manicure - It's harder this month, I liked about 4 of my mani's so much this month! But I think I will say my Mad Men Mani was my fave - it got very little love but I adored it!

Number One Product - I finally got a pair of cotton gloves to sleep in! They rule!

Number One New Technique/Tip - The DIY Decal thing is still going strong with me, there is no limit to what you can do with it and I've really loved trying new things out, so this one stays the same as last month!

Number One Collection - I'm really excited to try the new SinfulShine line from Sinful Colors. Stalking every Walgreens in town has not helped cushion this blow.

Number One New Thing in General - My new workspace. It has made my life so much easier! Except for all of the times I have to tell everyone "Dont you dare put your drink there!"

Number One TV Show - Hannibal! It is sooo awesome...I just love the way the story is being told here.

Number One Video Game - I wish I could say I'm still going strong on Candy Crush Saga - but I've been stuck at level 208 for 3 weeks or more now and I hate this game!!!! I play it like once every other day or less now because I can't pass the level and it's highly irritating. Plus on the last update something is wonky and it crashes on me all the time now. So in lieu of that - we are enjoying an oldie - Lego 2 Batman!

What were your Number Ones this month!?

CrowsToes - Shoot the Butterfly (and the Koi Fish, too!)

I'm back today with another review of an amazing CrowsToes polish - Shoot the Butterfly

CrowsToes - Shoot the Butterfly

Sinful Colors - Black on Black
Color Club - Wham! Pow!
Konad - Special White
Stamping Plate - A48

Shoot the Butterfly Macro - How gorgeous a jelly has there ever been?! A beautiful concoction of a black jelly and glitters in orange and white - the definition of a Monarch Butterfly morphed into a nail lacquer.

Bottle Shot of Shoot the Butterfly. The more I photograph these CrowsToes bottles, the more I become mildly obsessed with how awesome they are!

Shoot the Butterfly on the nail. Shown here at 1 coat over 1 coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black. I will get into more detail on the accent nail in a moment.

I have seen Shoot the Butterfly on its own and it layers up nicely at 2-3 coats. I wanted a much blacker appearance for this mani though, so I opted to apply it over a black base.

The glitters and formula on this polish were perfection - no digging or sinking, nothing gritty nor was it too thick or too thin - it was a dream. Shown here with 1 coat of NYC Grand Central topcoat.

For the accent I used my A48 plate to create a nail decal in black then I painted in Koi fish colors in white and orange and applied the decal over Shoot the Butterfly. Here it's shown with one coat of MASH Nails Matte topcoat.

And here is an on the nail matte macro version. I love those funky tie dyed looking glitters near the tip!!

Again - for my 2nd review of the CrowsToes line I am beholden to it's glory. I honestly couldn't find a bad thing to say about this polish!

UPC - Three Colors - Geometry

Happy...um...what's today, Saturday?
To me it's actually Wednesday as I'm trying to schedule ahead for the weekend!
So this is kind of like a Back to the Future post!

Back at the Untried Polish Challenge, today we're knocking out three of them with this geometric design I adapted from one of my earlier tape mani's that was a criss cross design. Instead of striping tape to make thin lines, I opted to use plain tape to offset my triangles...it seems more complicated than it was, I should probably just tell you step by step?

For this mani I used Zoya Bevin, Essence Trust In Fashion and P2 Break the Rules.

Pretty simple - I started with the light green (Zoya Bevin) - when it was dry, I taped squares askew on the top and bottom portions of each nail and then I painted one part pink and the other part dark green and was very careful to make sure the line where they met was as straight as possible.

Then the tape comes up and the topcoat goes on!

Here is also a matte version.

I super loved this mani...for the Three Color challenge I had a total different idea that didn't work out AT ALL, so I was glad when my backup plan was super successful - I call that Kismet!

CrowsToes - Milquetoast

Hey you guys!
Happy Friday!
I am gearing up for a rip roarin' weekend of video games and polish swatching...speaking of which, I have a WICKED swatch for you today!
I was recently sent the entire "Spring THIS" collection from Lauri of CrowsToes and ooooh lala you guys.
They are each so awesome I have to show them in their own posts, so expect to see alot of them in the coming week(s)!

So let's get the show on the road:

CrowsToes - Milquetoast

Milquetoast is an American English dysphemism for a weak, timid, or bland person.
Here we have the macro of Milquetoast.  Consisting of a creamy milky white base and chock full of glitters in copper and gold and possibly some holo? Or maybe the tiny gold ones are holo...I definitely saw some blue and greens coming off those microglitters!

Bottle of Milquetoast. There's nothing I can appreciate more than a finely packaged product. Lauri had her packaging down from the moment she started making polishes, and I for one can totally appreciate that attention to detail. And I appreciate the darkness of it, too!

Milquetoast - 2 coats plus NYC Grand Central Topcoat (omg I love this topcoat!)

For the accent nail I did some bronze, gold and iridescent yellow hex glitters to resemble a fish scale. I actually saw Kelly of Devilish Designs do this yesterday and I pretty much jumped up as soon as I saw her design and did my own. Hers is better though.

How much am I loving the fact that this polish only took TWO COATS? There is no milked up glitter, hiding glitter or any other bad things that can happen to a milky based glitter like this. PERFECT formula and just the right viscosity, it was nice and thin but not so thin to be patchy or watery.

Close up glitter delights! One coat of NYC Grand Central smoothed this nicely. Two probably would have been ideal for my taste, you may be different.

And here is a matte version of Milquetoast with MASH Nails Matte topcoat!

Overall, wow! I am beyond pleased with how well this polish performed, applied, looked and sparkled! I am obsessed with bronze and copper glitters so this polish really speaks to me.
If it speaks to YOU - here is where you can get your very own:

UPC - Two Colors - Double Purple

Helloooo and Happy Wednesday!
Today I'm back with the Untried Polish Challenge - Day 2- Two Colors!

Now on to the mani!

For this mani the two colors I am using are Sation Love At First Lavender and Illamasqua Stance.
My lovely ladyfriend Kirsten surprised me with a package a few weeks ago, and this gorgeous Sation was in there!

I started with 2 coats of Illamasqua Stance, when it was dry I applied some tape I had cut in a scallop design courtesy of some craft scissors. I then applied Love at First Lavender over that and up comes the tape.

Followed the polishing up with a coat of Out the Door and as it was still wet on the accent I placed two "brads" that look like buttons in the inlets of the scallop design!

These brads can be found in the scrapbooking section of Michaels. They have little legs on them that I just bend off and voila - cool nail studs!

Make sure and check out justaddpolish to see the details on joining in on this challenge.
